Q?

What is the Party | Team Building Format?

A.

The Party | Team Building Format is a game. It is a murder mystery activity created for you. The storyline is customized around you, your guests and your event. The suspects are guests at your event - your employees and/or your friends. For more information go to Party Format. If you are having a themed event and encouraging costumes, the mystery will be wrapped around your theme. Here are a few THEME ideas.

Q?

What is the Production Format?

A.

Our Production Format is like going to see a play, only you choose the date, time and place and we bring the play to you. A full team of actors and actresses will be on site to entertain. Your guests will be the armchair detectives trying to solve whodunnit. For more information go to Production Format.

Q?

Where should we host the murder mystery party?

A.

You choose the place. A restaurant with a private room, a function hall, an event center or similar works best. A private dining room is needed because, as you can image, this can get a little noisy. Plan on having your guests seated at tables regardless of whether you are planning a meal for them.

If you are near Sykesville, Maryland and have a group of 64 or fewer guests, I highly recommend Baldwin's Station Restaurant. They hire us on a monthly basis and we are comfortable working with and recommending this venue. It is a charming, unique, and historic restaurant with an upscale menu. E. Francis Baldwin designed the depot for the B&O Railroad in 1883. Baldwin's Station is located on The Old Main Line, the oldest railway in the country. Although you can no longer board the train from the restaurant, each day trains from Western Maryland pass by several times. The restaurant straddles the line of Carroll and Howard County and has a view of the Patapsco River. Parking is free out front and it is handicap accessible. If your guests arrive early they may enjoy exploring Main Street which recently won the title "Coolest Small Town in America." There are lovely shops, boutiques and antique stores. Remind them to bring a camera. This location is picturesque.

If you are near Ellicott City, Maryland, I highly recommend Turf Valley Resort. Numerous clients have booked this venue and turned their event into a murder mystery party and it works very well. They have an extensive menu and the function rooms are all lovely. Parking is free and it is handicap accessible. (It is a stand-alone resort so shopping and exploring beforehand is not an option.)

If you are near Frederick, Maryland, I highly recommend Dutch's Daughter Restaurant. Several clients have booked this venue also. They have different spaces which are all charming and the menu is impressive. Parking is free and it is handicap accessible. (It is a stand-alone restaurant so shopping and exploring beforehand is not an option.)

Q?

How does a mystery proceed? How long does it take?

A.

The mystery takes two hours around a dinner and we recommend you allow three hours for your event. Use this timeline as a guideline.

  • 06:00 Doors Open for Guest Arrivals, Mingling and Cocktails
  • 07:00 Salads Served, Guests Seated, Mystery Begins
  • 07:30 Entrées Served followed by Interrogations
  • 08:30 Desserts Served followed by Wrap-Up, Curtain Call and Awards
  • 09:00 End of Mystery

Q?

What is included?

A.

The customized murder mystery, the photography services (all photos can be downloaded by your guests for free), event coordination and everything needed for the entertainment (i.e. notebooks, pencils, props, costuming, awards, etc.). If you feed your guests, Whodunnit for Hire will keep them laughing and entertained.

Q?

Will we incur other costs?

A.

We kindly ask that you include the mystery coordinator (for the party format) or team of actors (for the production format) in your meal and parking count.

Q?

Will you help promote our mystery?

A.

I will happily create an invitation, flyer and program cover for your event. I will also help you market and sell tickets. I'm happy to help but ultimately ticket sales are your responsibility. There are several examples of the postcards I have created here: Link to Postcards.

Q?

Why should we book with Whodunnit for Hire?

A.

My goal, as owner of Whodunnit for Hire, is to offer the BEST murder mystery entertainment; not the cheapest; not the biggest; the BEST. To that end, I care about two things. First, I care about your party. I care that your guests tell you it was amazing and that they had an incredible time. I care that you are able to relax and enjoy your own party because I've got it handled. Second, I care about the storyline. The puzzle of whodunnit is important to me. The solution will be based on clues and reasoning, not a vote. When the killer is revealed, I want everyone to understand exactly why he or she "dunnit."

Q?

What if we found another murder mystery company that is cheaper?

A.

Don't risk it. You have one chance to make a great impression with this event. Your guests are important. The fact that they have a great time falls on your shoulders. If you book a Whodunnit for Hire murder mystery, you'll be able to relax. I will take your event very seriously and will expertly handle all the logistics. I have years of experience as an event planner, coordinator and photographer. I will ensure your event is a huge success and your guests have an amazing time. For months following the event, your guests will be singing your praises. Need more? Check out the Reviews of Whodunnit for Hire.

Q?

What is the Booking Policy?

A.

Your entertainment is confirmed once the invoice has been paid. For events over $2500 the payment may be broken in two, 50% due to confirm the date, 50% due one month in advance of the date.

Q?

What is the Cancellation Policy?

A.

Your payment is non-refundable. However, you may change the date of your event with thirty or more days notice and there is no penalty for a postponement due to inclement weather. If there is a change, the new date must be within the following ten months.

Q?

How many people can be at my murder mystery party?

A.

The party format (and team building format) is a game and best suited for 64 or fewer guests/players. The production format is a show and we could perform for as many as four hundred guests.

Q?

Where do you perform?

A.

We travel to locations within central Maryland, Washington DC including northern Virginia (NOVA) and parts of southern Pennsylvania. You choose the date, time and place. We travel to you.

Q?
